Former President Trump said he “can’t believe” President Biden will be the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee, calling into question his character and cognitive abilities.
“He’s a cheater. He’s a scoundrel. He’s a bad guy,” Trump said in a Breitbart News article published Friday. “But in his life, he’s always been able to convince people he’s this really nice guy. I laugh when they say, ‘Trump is the evil one, and he’s the nice one.’ That’s the one thing he’s been able to do. All you have to do is look at his credentials.”
The former president then appeared to go after Biden’s cognitive abilities, which he has a history of doing.
“When you compare him today to 15 or 20 years ago, he’s a different kind of a guy. The guy can’t talk,” Trump continued. “The guy can’t put two sentences together. So I do think this: I cannot believe he’s going to be the nominee. I hope he is. But I can’t believe he’s going to be the nominee.”
Trump has bragged about his own cognitive abilities before, including at an event in Iowa earlier this month, when he said he “aced” a cognitive exam.
“I took a physical and I passed with flying colors,” the former president said. “And I took a cognitive exam. I said ‘Doctor, give me anything you want, I want to take it.’”
The former president then went on to say that he thinks those who run for president should be “forced to take” a cognitive exam, going after Biden, who he claims “cannot pass a cognitive exam.”
“But, I took a cognitive exam, and I aced it,” Trump continued.
Back in 2020, while still in office, the former president boasted twice about how well he said he did on a test of his cognitive abilities in two separate interviews within a week of each other.
“The first questions are very easy, the last questions are much more difficult. Like a memory question,” Trump explained in one interview. “It’s like, you’ll go, ‘Person. Woman. Man. Camera. TV.’ So they’d say, ‘Could you repeat that.’ So I said, ‘Yeah. So it’s person. Woman. Man. Camera. TV.’ “
